Wedding Photography at Ballybeg House, Co. Wicklow
Nestled in 150 acres of rolling Wicklow parkland near Tinahely, Ballybeg House is one of Ireland's most distinctive and characterful wedding venues. It's the kind of place that doesn't need to advertise — couples find it by word of mouth, visit once, and book it on the spot.
The Portrait Room team have photographed weddings at Ballybeg many times over the years, and it remains one of our favourite places to work. The light here is exceptional — whether you're shooting in the Ayers Ceremony Room with its medieval stonework, candle chandeliers and open fires, or out on the walled garden grounds with the Wicklow hills as a backdrop.
What makes Ballybeg special from a photographer's perspective is the way it encourages people to relax. When a couple and their guests take over a venue exclusively for three or four days, the stiffness falls away quickly. By the time we're shooting on the wedding day itself, everyone is comfortable, natural and fully present — which is exactly what documentary wedding photography needs.
The Victorian Marquee with its draped ceilings, lace curtains and chandeliers is a beautiful reception space that photographs magnificently day or night. And the Shebeen — the old stone private bar with flagstone floors and open fires — is one of the most atmospheric spaces we've ever shot an after-party in.
If you're planning a relaxed, intimate wedding in the Wicklow countryside and want photography that captures it honestly and beautifully, we'd love to hear from you.
